KAY's TEXT AND MEDIA SPECIALTIES
BUSINESS AND FINANCIAL COPYWRITING
With clients ranging from FLSmidth to Oticon to Danske Bank, Kay has a wide range of experience in the Danish corporate world. She enjoys writing about companies and their challenges, and about markets and the people who drive them. Quick, flexible, and reliable, Kay is able to join existing communications teams or work independently to get your job done on time and at the highest level of quality.
English EDITING AND PROOFREADING
A longtime fan of advertising pioneers like George Lois and David Oglivy, Kay enjoys working with advertising agencies and their digital peers. She has cooperated with local Danish agencies to provide smooth English phrasing for everything from employer branding campaigns to hearing aid brochures to pasta wrappers to apps and online games. As the writer behind the Foreign Ministry’s Denmark.dk, she even helped advertise Denmark itself.
As the author of the bestselling book“Top 35 Mistakes Danes Make in English”, Kay has seen it all when it comes to "Danglish.” She can streamline your documents into fluid, natural-sounding English to help you create the best possible impression worldwide. Regular clients include Nilfisk and Chr Hansen.
A former reporter and copy editor for Dow Jones and The Wall Street Journal, Kay understands how the business world works. She was the editor of Danske Magazine, Danske Bank's internal magazine, which went out to 23,000 employees of the bank in 7 different languages and was named one of the top 3 internal magazines in Europe. Kay knows how to make corporate news fresh, intriguing and challenging without stepping on too many toes. Past external clients include Grundfos and Widex.
A former staff translator for the Danske Bank Group, Kay has translated for Danish unions, universities, start-up IT firms, and a fertility clinic. Kay can translate into either U.S. English or British English, according to your house style, and specializes in making somewhat dry topics sound exciting and entertaining.
voiceover and script streamlining
Kay has provided voiceovers for a wide range of Copenhagen agencies and sound studios, specializing in “Female Business Voice” – professional but friendly; warm, yet authoritative. Because of her experience in television journalism, she often works with the client to streamline and improve scripts for a more 'natural' English sound. Her assignments have included e-learning, corporate videos, and app voiceovers. She also appears regularly on-camera on TV2, a national Danish television network.
Concept Development and Storytelling
Kay enjoys sitting down to a great brainstorming session with a team of talented colleagues and helping to create and develop a great concept for a new website, magazine, or social media initiative. The strategy and idea phase lays the foundation for a great project, and Kay can contribute both her media experience and a variety of fresh, fun ideas. She's happy to serve as a short term 'external catalyst' to spark creativity in your existing team, or to stay with a project as it moves towards realization.
communications project management
When it comes to running a team of writers, designers, techs, and translators, Kay has experience at some of the largest Danish companies. She ran Danske Bank's internal magazine, Danske Magazine, with writers and photographers in 5 countries. Her online experience includes managing numerous websites of her own, including this one, and recruiting and editing analysts from around the world as Head of Content for Saxo Bank's online trading community. Kay enjoys the adrenaline rush of a tight deadline.
social media communities and content
Maybe you've developed an expensive social media strategy - but who's going to execute it? Kay can create social media content, helping to maintain the tone that matches your company and product. Kay ran the @CarlsbergGroup Twitter feed and helped build an online social community for Saxo Bank. A social media enthusiast herself, she currently maintains a Facebook profile, 3 Facebook pages, 3 Twitter feeds, 2 Wordpress blogs, YouTube, Vimeo and Vine channels, plus more than 500 connections on LinkedIn.
online content creation & Intranets
Kay has been writing online content since 1995, for her own website as well as ABCnews.com and ABC.com, owned by the ABC television network, one of the "Big 3" US networks. She has also produced content for corporate intranets at Danske Bank and Carlsberg Breweries, as well as editing and coaching employees at those companies in how to write for online readers. Kay is comfortable with popular online content management systems including WordPress and Sharepoint, along with Squarespace - the technology behind this site.
